A well-respected special needs (SEND) school in Peckham is seeking an intervention assistant to join their team in September 2020.

Located within a large, new build, this unique provision supports students aged from 3 to 17 who have a range of complex and multiple needs. Covering both the moderate (MLD) and severe (SLD) needs brackets, the school aims to achieve a level of inclusion for all students, enabling many to attend classes within their partner mainstream school.

The role offered is of in 'intervenor' to work 1:1 with a new student who has multi-sensory needs. Currently in year 11, the school are seeking a support worker who has specific experience of working with students with similar needs who can make a genuine commitment to ensuring that this young person can achieve full access to learning within the school curriculum until the end of their school career.

The ideal candidate will have the following attributes

 A good general standard of education (5 GCSEs including English and Mathematics at A* to C or Functional Skills Level 2).

 Experience of working with and supporting children with Special Educational Needs specific to the area of Sensory Impairment.

 Be suitably qualified in working with children and young people with Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment or Multi Sensory Impairment or willing to attend training regarding specific difficulties associated with Multi Sensory Impairment

 A hard working attitude and a sense of commitment;

 Shows initiative and the ability to be spontaneous;

 Understands that behaviour is a communication of need, and uses a positive behaviour approach;

 Is a good team player who is willing to contribute to the ethos and wider community of the school.
