Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant with experience of working with children with special needs?
I am helping a Catholic primary school in North West London with recruiting a special needs (SEND) assistant to start in September.
You will be working with a girl who will be in Year 2, on a 1:1 basis. The child is still undergoing diagnosis but it is known that she has autism and probably global delays. She is now using very basic speech and some short sentences and is able to communicate using PECS, so experience in this area is desireable.
There are some behaviour management aspects involved in the role, possibly born through frustration and she does have a tendency to run if a chance presents itself, so you will need to be physically fit. There may also be a personal care aspect to the role, including toileting.
The school is very supportive of the child and are keen to assimilate her into the school and there is also lots of support from home.
This is a Catholic school and the school welcome staff form all faiths.
To be considered for this role you must meet the following criteria:
- Have experience working in a primary school
- Have experience working closely with children with special needs(SEND), and Autism
- Have used PECS in the past
- Be an excellent communicator, as you will be working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, parents and possibly external agencies.
This will be an excellent opportunity to use your SEN skills to work in an interesting role, with a great school.
