SEN Teaching Assistant - Southwark

Are you a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant? Do you have the ability to make an impact in the life of a child from a disadvantaged background? This specialist SEMH school for Primary pupils in Southwark is looking for a SEN Teaching Assistant to support their students, this role will start in January 2022.

All the children who attend this school are there because it was not possible to meet their needs in a mainstream setting. For some this School may be their third or fourth school so their main aim is to reignite a love of learning.

The School has a fantastic staff team committed to improving the life chances of some deserving, often vulnerable children. They personalise the curriculum and strive for children to make accelerated levels of academic progress.

Families play an important role at the School, this ranges from daily communication via home school diaries, regular Coffee Mornings and successful events such as Art or Science family learning sessions and a Family Fun Day.

Requirements

  • Immediate right to work in the UK
  • Experience of working with students with SEMH within a mainstream or Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) setting
  • A patient and understanding approach
  • A flexible approach
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Existing DBS check on the update service
  • Experience of PECS, Makaton, Intensive Interaction, Rapid Prompting Method and other relevant augmentative and alternative communication approaches are advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • To work alongside the class teachers to ensure the school behaviour policy is adhered to
  • Be aware of, and remain responsible for all safeguarding of pupils within your care
  • Work collaboratively with both teaching and support staff to ensure best outcomes for students
  • Foster independence in students and promote well-being and good welfare
