At Career Teachers we are currently working closely with an Outstanding SEN setting in Leeds who require additional teaching assistants/learning support assistants to support students with autism and other varying special educational needs. At present we can offer both long and short term work, full and part time.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable and have experience of working with vulnerable students with Autism (ASD/ASC) and be confident in their ability to provide the levels of understanding and patience needed.

Working with autism and SEN can be a challenging yet extremely rewarding role, we are looking for people who possess the following attributes and feel confident in their ability to break down the barriers present by ASD:

  • Patience. It often takes a child with ASD longer to process information. You may need to slow down your conversation and adapt activities accordingly.

  • The ability to manage challenge behaviours and teach the child how to express anger without being too aggressive.
  • Resilience. It is important that you can put your own feelings to one side from time to time and understand why the child is behaving a certain way.
  • Positivity. Children with ASD respond best to positive reinforcement.
  • Focused. They may only be able to handle one thought or idea at a time. Keep conversations focused and simple.

We are looking for people who are reliable and committed to making a difference. If you feel that you have the right skill-set and are looking for a new exciting opportunity, click apply now and we will be in touch.
