We are on the hunt for a SEN Teaching Assistant, to take on this remarkable opportunity to be a part of a proactive team, in Wandsworth and surrounding areas, joining Career Teachers.

As a Specialist Teaching Assistant (SENTA), you will be responsible for providing learning support to individuals with Autism and ASD in 1-1 and groups while supporting teacher and senior leadership. We are recruiting for a experienced SEN Teaching Assistant who is creative and innovative with the aptitude to create a positive learning environment.

Roles and Responsibilities

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will have:

  • Experience in supporting pupils in a classroom environment, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
  • A good understanding of the national Key Stage Curriculum.
  • Sound understanding of child development and learning.
  • The ability to demonstrate active listening skills and strong verbal communication skills.
  • A dedication to establishing positive relationships with pupils and understanding their needs.
  • Knowledge of SEN/ special educational needs and Additional learning needs and the varying support required
  • The ability to provide varying levels of individual attention, reassurance and support with learning tasks as appropriate to pupil's needs.
  • Willingness and ability to adapt to a wide range of duties in response to changing circumstances.
  • The ability to monitor a pupil's response to learning activities and modify or adapt the activities to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
  • The confidence to self-evaluate learning needs and actively seek new teaching methods.
  • The ability to provide constructive feedback to pupils in a way that reinforces self-esteem.
  • The ability to handle complex and sensitive issues with empathy and understanding.
  • Ability to work effectively and supportively as a member of the college team.

Qualifications and Requirements: All the below requirements are essential for this position:

  • 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C), or equivalent, including English and Mathematics.
  • Previous experience (minimum of 3 months) working with individuals with Autism and ASD.


  • Level 2/3 in Support Teaching in Schools Qualification
  • Level 3/4 Early Years Education Qualification
  • Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools


  • Previous teaching support experience within a UK primary school (not key stage dependent)
  • Fluent level of English, both spoken and written.


  • Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools
  • Any specialist SEN training - PECKS, MAKATON etc.
  • Restraint / personal care training and experience
  • Autism/ therapeutic focused Training
  • Any CDP/ higher education qualifications in education and specialist support
