We are currently looking to recruit a Head of Computer Science to lead this lovely and successful department and open to applications from experienced Head of Computer Science or experienced Computer Science Teachers or Tutors to join this friendly and highly successful College from January 2024.

About the college:

This very popular mixed sixed form college have about 1500 students on roll. The students are 16-18, full-time, and taking A level courses. The College has around 80 teachers and 40 members of support staff. The College has an Ofsted Outstanding status and one of the 'leading sixth form colleges' in England. As a sixth-form college, their ethos has always been similar to that of a sixth form in a school. They provide strong pastoral support and monitoring but also encourage independence in learning and study habits. The teachers are all expert in their subjects and well qualified. Many of their teachers have previously taught in other schools. Their exam results are consistently above the average for sixth form colleges. Whilst this is a source of some pride, they are aware that there is always work to be done to improve further.

About the Computer Science Department

A level Computer Science is taught within the faculty of Maths & Computing. It is the fastest growing department seeing year-on-year increases in student numbers and is highly oversubscribed. The school are delighted that they benefit from strong links with Imperial College London as this university forms part of the Frontier Learning Trust which runs the College. The department has two large computing labs based in a purpose-built block with integrated learning facilities and study area. There is a keen interest in investment into the department and they have a digital copy of the Bond book and physical copies of the Reeves books as well as access to several online resources. Every classroom has a Smartboard and is equipped with good performing computers supported by a responsive IT team. The Computer Science department work together with the Maths department to encourage a variety of teaching, learning and assessment activities. A cooperative and friendly climate is maintained in which staff are supported in trying new classroom ideas and putting forward new initiatives.

Person specification

  • PGCE or equivalent post-16 teaching qualification.
  • Recent successful experience of teaching A level Computer Science.
  • Enthusiasm for Computer Science as an academic subject and the ability to convey that enthusiasm in A level teaching.
  • Excellent classroom skills and the ability to employ a range of teaching strategies and resources which engage and support students in the promotion of high-quality learning.
